Orbi WebUI add ethernet backhaul link type (100mbps or 1000mbps)

I recently had a problem with my backhaul ethernet connection where an intermittent cabling problem would cause my backhaul to operate at 100Mbit rather than 1000Mbit. This caused my satellite to be limited to around 80 mbps (down/up) rather than around 400 mbps that it can do when I use a wireless backhaul. I had checked my cables carefully, and the intermittent nature of hte issue had me thinking there was no cable issue and that there must have been a firmware bug or something. I was quite upset and actually started looking for another product line when I saw other people have had this issue too. I eventually came to realize there was an intermittent issue when I plugged my satellite's ethernet connection in to my gigabit switch and saw the switches' LEDs indicate the connection was indeed running at 100mbps, not 1000mbps. I then found the root cause in the cabling and now my ethernet backhaul lets me get closer to 460mbps and I no longer am looking to replace my Orbi's (I was quite sad as I have RBK50's at my house, my parent's house, my brother's house and my family's cabin and when I thought there was this firmware bug I was looking to replace them all).

 

Please consider updating the RBR/RBS50 firmware so that when a satellite is using an ethernet backhaul, the WebUI indicates what the link type is; 100mbps or 1000mbps.

  • Hey netgear, this would be super-simple to do, and really help people diagnose performance issues when setting up mesh systems at home

    It would also therefore increase your reviews/ratings and reduce the number of returns from unhappy customers.
