Pi-Hole as an app/plugin for Netgear Orbi

I think it would be pretty awesome if Netgear made their Network devices like the Netgear Orbi support the free software called Pi-Hole via an app/plugin support feature on the device itself. For those that dont know Pi-Hole is a FREE network wide ad blocker that you install on a Raspberry Pi and then after its installed on Raspberry Pi you connect the Raspberry Pi to your router and setup the Raspberry Pi as the DNS server. I would love to see Netgear make Pi-Hole compatible with their devices without having to buy a Raspberry Pi, maybe add it as a plugin or addon that you can install on Netgear devices?

  • I support this idea. I was successful to install it on my NAS as a docker. It would be a great simplification if we could install docker directly on the Netgear router.

  • The problem with this, is when the blocking of ads then breaks a website or an app. If the user (lets say your partner or child who doesn't understand this stuff). wants to use that site or app, but has no idea how to whitelist it. It isn't going to be user friendly to the house hold which is why it is always best for such features like ad blocking to be done on an individual device/user level. Netgear could develop a browser plugin to help manage it, but then you are talking a plugin that needs to work on multiple browsers, which is a hassle for what business gain and it still doesn't help for apps like Live Sport Tv (and similar) which will stop working with ad blockers in place.
