Please allow for the ability to separate the SSIDs for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies on the Nighthawk MR60. There are some smart home devices that only work on the 2.4Ghz band.

A laptop with only 2.4 GHz – which must be really old – will not, and cannot, try to connect t to 5 GHz.
If your device does not connect. something else is happening.
But you don't say enough to be able to say might might be going on.
