New Idea
Shared resources between Main/Guest/6GHz/Iot networks
RBR50 had something like "allow guest network to access devices on the main network". That was a workaround to allow people on the guest network to access printers etc., but also gave them access to other PCs etc. It was a blanket feature, with no device granularity, and probably was exposing more than needed.
RBRE960 seems to have gotten rid of that altogether.
So, I really want to put my friends and extended family visiting onto the Guest network, but that means every time they need to print something, they need to print to PDF and email it to me, so I can print it for them. Or be on the wired LAN network, which is not easily possible with phones & tablets.
Ideally, the old feature should come back & and be improved to work at a device granularity:
- For each device on Attached Devices admin page, just like it allows the editing of Model/Name/Type, user should be able to select a checkbox "Share with these networks:" and select one or more of the networks beamed out by that router. In the case of the RBRE960, these would be the four networks it is capable of beaming: Main, Guest, 6Ghz-only, and IoT.
- Then, I could say that this printer on Main is shared with Guest and 6Ghz networks, but not IoT.
- And then, maybe this other resource on IoT with its own web admin page is shared with Main so that my phone/laptop on the main network can connect to that device's admin page without needing to switch the phone to the IoT network or requiring me to put that IoT device on my main network, either of which would defeat the purpose why those networks exist.
I think this is an essential feature. Otherwise, people will be forced to put everything on the Main network eventually to get things working.
Thanks for listening
