Stop blocking ICMPv6

ICMPv6 is crucial for the correct working of IPv6. The only router vendor that filters ICMPv6 is NETGEAR - no other router vendor, including open source firmwares, filter out ICMPv6. Many people have complained about this yet NETGEAR does what it wants and never listens. If NETGEAR's engineers think they know better than the RFC, they should go out and try to buy some clue. Due to this non-comformance, if this doesn't get fixed ASAP, NETGEAR will lose yet another customer like me (and I'm not alone).

  • Again some one with security in mind made a their idea a rule and forced on everybody ipv6 is the new standard now Netgear is not the only one block some ipv6 ports with security settings on their routers but could fixed it with a firmware patch.

  • Don't know if you guys moved on from this because of the long wait but I'm happy to tell you I think they finally listened. Getting 19/20 tests as of the current firmwares (at least for my R7000)

The issue has been resolved in later firmware.

  • This is still not resolved for new routers. I have a R8000P, X6S AC4000 and IPv6 test still shows ICMPv6 getting blocked.

Will Netgear implement a fix / update that will propagate to all routers? this is not good.

    Reopen for R8000P (Nighthawk X6S)

  • This still is an issue for the R7000. I've tried alternative firmwares and they do not filter ICMP so it's obviously a problem with the stock firmware. Unfortunately, the alternative firmwares result in a loss of WiFi performance so they are a no go. If this can't be fixed I will need to move on from Netgear products entirely.

  • Even Linksys had the same issue when came to IPV6 when I was using it The best I can figure it is my isp problem not my, even my rax80 has the issue on it.

  • So the fools at DNI (the outsource that develops the firmware for NETGEAR) have added the option "IPv6 Open Filtering" to my RAX43 and R7800 firmware. In reality, what they've done is to allow IPV6 echo requests to pass through so they can pass/fool the tests on IPv6 sites that test for ICMPv6. All the rest of IPV6 is fully blocked on these routers. Very dirty played, indeed.
