This is absolutely the most important new feature that could be incorporated into Netgear firmware for all devices. I typically use the higher end routers in the Netgear consumer line (R8000, R8300, etc.), but not the highest end. Privacy concerns are real, especially with attacks like the recently announced bug in various Gigabit modem/routers widely supplied by ISPs to home users. It is not a hardware limitation, as the DD-WRT firmware contains the capability to configure a OpenVPN outbound client in the firmware updates for the R8000, R8500 and other Netgear devices.
