All downloadable firmware upgrades brick my WNR1000v3

Hi,

I just powered-up a WNR1000v3 which successfully ran firmware 1.0.2.28 for a few minutes before it bricked itself when I allowed it to install the auto-detected upgrade to 1.0.2.72 in the web interface!

To cut a long investigative story short, I subsequently flashed ALL of the available (non-NA versions, as my region is Europe) via tftp2 to recover, and they ALL do NOT work! The device keeps blinking green after "successful" upload...

To my surprise this also included the downloadable 1.0.2.28! It turns out the downloadable version has the same size as the CD version, but differs in 3 bytes... So I flashed the CD version and the device came back to life! WTF???

So here are my questions to NETGEAR:

1. Are your downloads compromised? I see no checksums to verify...

2. How do I get a working firmware upgrade for my device? Looking at the (in)security reports for WNR1000* I am uncomfortable operating this device with 1.0.2.28

Serial number is 2J2XXXXXXXXXX, let me know if you need any further information. I know this is a legacy device but I hope you feel compelled to rectify this situation which hurts your reputation.

und willkommen in der NETGEAR Community.

Allgemein gibt es keine Probleme mit der Software.

Das von Dir beschriebene Problem sieht somit wie ein Zufall aus.

Welche Firmware Version ist aktuell auf Deinem Router installiert?

Hast Du versucht, die Firmware erneut zu aktualisieren?

Hallo,

ich habe ein ähnliches Problem, bis zur Firmware Version 1.0.2.68 läuft der Router problemlos, das Upgrade auf 1.0.2.72 endet mit einer grün blinkenden Power LED. Der Router ist via Web Interface nicht mehr erreichbar. Rücksetzen auf Werkseinstellungen hat nichts gebracht.

Über das TFTP Tool konnte ich die auf alte Firmware .68 wieder downgraden und seither läuft der Router wieder.
