can I tape over the blue light so as not to draw attention to the camera without interfering with sound or picture?

yes, the led does not effect anything if covered.

Also make sure you have turned off the led in settings. the only exception for the led to come on if toggled off ( on the Q ) is if at max range for signal ( it still comes on ) ...I cover the Q led over a year ago due to this
