I'm considering getting several WAX206 units, but I noticed in the user manual that the the 2.4 GHz band only supports 256 QAM while the WAX202 supports 1024 QAM. Is this right? Why the difference when the 5.0 GHz band supports 1024 QAM for both WAX202 and WAX206.

Hi @Redhill408
Welcome to the NETGEAR community forum.
WAX202 supports 11AX on both radios(2.4G & 5G), whereas WAX206 supports AX only on 5G but not on 2.4G.
802.11AX modulation can support 1024QAM whereas 11n supports upto 256QAM. The reason is WAX202 and WAX206 based on two different chipsets.
Hope it answers your question.
Thanks,
Raghu.

Re: WAX202 vs WAX206 at 2.4GHZ
That would explain the difference, but it is seems strange to have that difference between the two models.
