CM3000 Modem only

My Xfinity tech says that the CM3000 can do DNS and that I don't need my wifi router to be in router mode only AP. Is that true?? I have speed coming out of the modem but slower speed coming out of the wifi router wired ports.

Thanks

Man guess that tech has no idea about CM series modems. CM series modems are just that, ONLY modems. No router or WiFi. It passes thru all internet traffic to a router if you want multiple devices to connect and get internet.

You can use the CM modem with say one wired PC and get internet, however you can't connect additional devices.

      Thanks,

I was pretty sure this was the case. The modem feeds a Linksys EA3800 that routes and provides some wifi. It then feeds a gig 16 port switch that then feeds all the hard wire stuff like my PC. The tech got great speed out of the modem but it all slows down at the EA3800. Not sure why yet.

I get more than contracted download speed but upload is stuck at under 5 mps at best. He got much more on his gizmo out of the modem.
