GS105Ev2 setup vlan100 to connect cable modem to Synology RT2600AC WAN port

we had to set a static IP on the computer to match the pre-configured IP address range of the switch.Since we connected directly to the switch (without router) we did not receive an ipaddress from the dhcp server and as a result the switch and laptop were located in different subnets.

The synology RT2600AC does not support VLAN Tagging on the WAN Interface. Our ISP (NBN/HFC) requires a VLAN to tagged so we the GS105Ev2 was placed inbetween the Arris Cable Modem and teh Synology Router.

For others facing teh same problem here are some instructions:

- We configured a static IP address on the switch in case we need to get in in the future and changed the default PW for security reason

- In the VLAN settings 802.1Q Advanced we created VLAN100 and associated switch ports 1 & 2

- We tagged Port 1 with VLAN100(T) and connected it to the cable modem

- We Un-tagged Port 2 with VLAN100(U) and connected it to the Synology Router

- IN Port PVID settings I assigned VLAN100 to Port 1 & 2

- We Excluded Port 1 & 2 from the dfeaut VLAN(1). The Netgear webgui shows this as an empty box, other switches may show an (E) here

Going forward we will be able to manage the switch from Port 3,4,5 only.

In the synology Router, please ensure that any VLAN settings (VOIP, IPTV) have been disabled, so that the WAN Interface(s) won't send any VLAN information to the modem.
