Nighthawk r8000 slower ethernet speed than modem ethernet speed

my speed on cable modem wired straight is 500 plus download and upload 14 when I hook up to the nighthawk router wired straight is only 148 download and 8 upload, I performed a reset and re-downloaded...

Get the IP address off your primary router for the R8000. the primary router is controlling dhcp and will give it an IP address. Should be in an attached device list (or whatever the primary router uses). 

did the speeds improve

    If the nighthawk is in AP mode, its NAT is disabled. so its the arris that's running the nat.
