Router based VPN
Hello all, So I've been wanting to set up a router based VPN for obvious reasons and recently read an article about using Wire Guard (they use Proton VPN as the example, and that also is what I'd like to use) for such purpose. Looked up whether or not that can be done with this router and a general search seemed to indicate it can, but after perusing the boards here and looking at the manual and the Advanced Setup page in the router, it seems like it can only be used to access one's own home network and/or home internet service from outside in, rather than setting up the VPN for daily inside out use. It certainly would be more convenient and I think safer, if I could and considering this seems to be a fairly high end router/cable modem it should be.
Thanks in advance.

The Netgear configuration for an Open VPN server works very well for outside in access. It is easy to be confused by the terminology.
Some providers of inside out VPN services provide custom firmware for Netgear model routers. You will have to check with the individual VPN service providers for what specific models of Netgear routers they support. Note, if your Netgear router is still covered by warranty, installing a third part firmware will void that warranty.
I doubt if you will find any VPN service providers that support the CAX80. Primarily because it is a dual function (modem/router) device.

Thanks for your and parapcc's responses. Of course they seem to be opposing viewpoints. But, I will attempt to contact Proton and ask them if indeed the CAX 80 will support a hardware based solution.
