linksys velop mesh won't connect to nighthawk modem

Does anyone have an idea as to why my linksys velop mesh won't connect to my nighthawk modem/router ? The node is connected with an ethernet cord directly to modem but when I go to linksys setup, the node won't connect to modem.

What model NG modem/router do you have? 

Most NG combo gateway modems with built in routers need to be configured for modem only mode if your going to use a external router system. https://kb.netgear.com/27191/How-to-set-the-cable-modem-router-to-be-on-modem-only
