a few weeks ago i was getting about 70 mbps on my internet. then i got a message from xfinity that i was going to start getting 100 mbps speed. well i checked my speed a few days later and i was gett...

ok i had to return that c7000 modem. comcast told me the reason i was not getting the 100 mbps was that modem is not compatible with there system for my area! when i put the c3700 online i got 55 to 60 mbps and when i put the c7000 online i got 40 to 50 mbps. so it may not be entirely the network switch, that switch may have some issues but comcast told me to put the c3700 back online as that one would be better for now. they told me to get the motorola mg7700 that i see on ebay now is better. and will work on my system and they told me it is capable of 150 mbps. so i will try for one of those modems and let you all know how that one does for me. i will get at lease 1, 4 or 5 port 10/100/1000 switch for the laptops and the cameras can stay on the 10/100 switch. thanks

Measured how, exactly?

Your ISP communicates with your router through its co-ax interface.
Practically anything which you might do on its Ethernet side should have
no effect on what your ISP can do with your modem(+router).

How much do you expect anyone here to know about "any of the network
switches" which you might be using, or how you connected them?

I don't see how anyone could.

no effect on what your ISP can do with your modem(+router). all i can say is what they told me. they wanted to reboot the modem and told me they could not see it on there system

How much do you expect anyone here to know about "any of the network
switches" which you might be using, or how you connected them? well someone may have figured this out. i have a netgear 16 port 10.100 mb switch. 2 weeks or so ago i got 75 plus for mbps then this last week it is down to 60 and less mbps. if i connect the same cat5 cable up to the pc from the modem it gots to 112 plus mbps. but thru the switch it now is less. before they told me i was going to get over 100 mbps i did the same test ont he back of the modem and i got the 75 mbps from the back of the modem using the same cat5 cable that i plugged into the switch. this is a netgear switch not a hub. it is not managed and it say switch on it. thanks

Thanks for that model number. It really helped.
If you're trying to get speeds at or close to 100Mb/s, then you might
get better results from a gigabit-capable network switch.Note: "m" = milli = 1/1000. "M" = "mega" = 1000000.

thanks for that. i ws under the impression that the 10/100 switch could get that speed being it was giving me 70+ before i got the notice that xfinity was bumping me up to 100 mbps. i was at 75 mbps and my speed was showing that. anyway i was concerned that the c7000 modem was not working as it should being i was getting worse speed from that unit that i was getting from the c3700 unit. so it looks like i was good but only my network switch was the issue. again thanks i will get a 10/100/1000 switch and get back with those results. thanks
