Have interneet with modem/router, but no when plugged directly in modem

    When you directly connect your pc/laptop to the modem, the isp doesn't automatically reassign the ip address if it isn't powered off. 

    So power off the modem (and the laptop/pc). Give it a couple minutes. Then power on the modem without a device connected to it. 

    Once its fully booted, then connect your pc/laptop and power it on. Give a bit to fully boot. 

    That should get you a connection. 

     

    In terms of the modem not having a speed test, its not a router. Its a modem only device. I've got quite a few modems (from several companies) and none of the modem only device have any speedtesting built in. Again, they're modem only device.
