How to stop calls to update1.netgear.com

A couple of days ago, my router (Netgear N600WiFi Cabel Modem Router, Model C3700v2) started making calls to the domain updates1.netgear.com. Calls are being made multiple times per second. why is this happening and how do I turn this off? I have already tried restarting the device but this did not work. I would like to avoid factory reset since it took a long time to configure. Thanks!

Might try using a blocking control on that URL and see...not sure if it will work.

Go to Advanced, Security, Block Sites

Unfortunately, this did not work. When logging into the router, I noticed a red warning message: "Your Internet status is offline, please call your Internet service provider to activate.". This is odd, because I am definitely connected. Never seen this before.

That status messge maybe a false positive as the real opertion maybe working. That status message maybe tied to that address.

Does the status message clear if you remove that block?
