Reduce 2GHz channel width C7000-100NAS

Hi. I have C7000-100NAS that is working superb since 5 years!

1. 2 GHz issue: Recently I performed a reset and when I re-configured the router, I found that for the same chosen Channel 3 (2 GHz), the channel width went on from 1-7 in a network analysis app (earlier it went to about channel 5 on the graph). It not only overlaps a lot with my neighbors but also overlaps a bit with my R7800 used as access point set at channel 8. But the channel width on R7800 is much less than channel width on C7000. There are no settings other than beamforming transmission and reception that I can tweak for wireless (no settings for 20 & 40 coexistence). Hence how can I make C7000 channel width lesser? It spans over a lot of channel numbers!

2. 5 GHz: not an issue, but just wanted an advice. I have set R7800 at 149 and C7000 at 157 as these were the channels where least of my neighbors had their routers on. However in my app, I can see both have same overlapping channel width on graph. Will this cause an issue with my devices (devices or routers being confused where to send / receive the signals)?

Appreciate your help on both matters above! Thank you!

  • Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz. These are suggested primary channels to use. All other channels are sub channels used by the wifi system.

If you have wifi neighbors near by, try reducing the power out put of the wifi radios from 100% to say 75 or 50%. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings.

Channel width is handle automatically by the modem system. I don't think you can set 20Mhz only any more.

      Hi FURRYe38,
Thanks for answering promptly! Unfortunately there is no way I could decrease signal strength (no choices 25%.... to 100%). However, your answer gave me food for thought. I decreased the max speed of 2 gigahertz signal from 600 Mbps to 287 Mbps and all of a sudden, the wireless signal channel width dropped! Earlier the graph spanned 8 channels, now it spans 4. I just need it for my wireless cameras and smart plugs, so I need just a few mbps speed. Decreased channel width should make bonding stable (just my thought!). So now I keep C7000 at channel 3 and R7800 as access point at channel 8 (with same SSID). They have no overlap with each other and since my neighbors are at 1, 6 and 11, they have least conflicts. I will see how my devices like the new setting!

Ok, that would work too sounds like.

Hope it keeps working. Thanks for letting us know.

        Enjoy.
