Using C3000 Modem/Router as Wifi Extender
I recently moved and am using a new internet service provider and their provided XFinity gateway as my main modem/router. I have poor connectivity in parts of my house and would like to use my old Netgear C3000 Modem/router as a wifi extender. I've read a number of threads on this topic and it never seems like anyone is very clear with instructions or on the details of this specific model.
I've navigated to the "Advanced" Settings page of the C3000 router login page. Under the "administration" tab, there's an option for "Wireless AP." On that page, it lists all the wireless networks around me and the message at the bottom of the page says:
"View the wireless access points (APs) that are broadcasting wireless networks in your area. For each wireless network, the security level and the signal strength are displayed. To join a network, select it and enter the password if prompted. You can click the Refresh button to update the list."
I can see my home's wireless network in the list, but am unable to select anything from the list. Others have stated that this model is not capable of being used as a wifi extender, but I can't see how that would be the case if I'm supposedly being given the option to connect to another network.
Does anyone know if there are other settings that have to be modified first in order to use the C3000 model as a wifi extender?

Re: Using C3000 Modem/Router as Wifi Extender
Something that is not possible on modem gateway units. Can run in router gateway mode or modem only mode.
You can configure a wired AP mode and use the wireless radios with a ethernet connection to a host router.
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Cable Modem products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Cable modems (C and CM series) products:
