Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.

Normally at that point, you'd read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.  Sadly, the Release Notes file for the latest (V1.0.0.18)
firmware for the PLW1000v2 says only:

[...] follow the instructions in your product's user manual. [...]

and "firmware" seems not to be mentioned in the User Manual for
"PowerLINE 1000, 1010 and 1200 Adapters".

Interestingly (and perhaps usefully), the Release Notes for the
earliest few firmware versions do include some more useful instructions.

That tells me approximately nothing about what you did.

Similarly useless.  First, "cant" is a word, different from "can't".

"can't" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

   I wouldn't bet on that.

You might try a settings reset on your Powerline gizmos, and then
pretend that they're new.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for
"Reset".  Further reading might not hurt, either.

Re: PLW1000v2 firmware

I already reset it and it did not fix the issue I am having. But, thank you for your reply.

"it"?  What about the other one?  You do have two Powerline gizmos,
right?

A settings reset is not a magical panacea.  "pretend that they're
new" meant to follow the set-up instructions as if they were new.  It
did not mean that the gizmos would magically configure themselves.

With my weak psychic powers, I still can't see what you did, or what
happened when you did it.

Re: PLW1000v2 firmware

My apologies, I will start from the beginning and be more detailed. I was in a rush yesterday and was typing it quickly.

I mentioned the product i have, the PLW1000v2 with the powerline. it comes with one extender and one powerline.

I live in the apartment downstairs from my mom. the router is upstairs where she lives.  the powerline is upstairs connected to the router, the extender is downstairs in my apartment. I first bought the extender and powerline when i moved in because the connectin was very weak. this was in 2018. I set it up per the instructions and had no issues. everything connected and i had good wifi from the extender. fast forward to this year.  One day this week my mom bought a new router and did not mention it to me. i came home and was unable to connect my devices to the extender. I did what you recommended before i posted this, which was to factory reset it and pretend it was new aka reinstall it per the instructions. but i am still having trouble. i will now list the issue i am having to make everything more clear..

so, first, the extender and powerline show they are connected but are not showing up when i display wifis to connect to on my phone, xbox etc (sorry if that doesnt make sense idk how else to explain it because i lack the termonology)

last night after factory reset again, the wifi name example : "Netgearext" was showing up and i was able to connect my phone and lap top to it.

now before i had these issues, i had my xbox connected to the extender which is downstairs with me, plugged into it with an ethernet cable and never had a problem. Now, my xbox cant even find the wifi name "netgearetx" , it does not even display as an option, only the router is able to connect. When i plug my xbox into the extender using the ethernet cable, it says to check my wifi connection, which tells me it is not working. idk what else to do and i know i am bad at explaining my situation, also please excuse my typing or grammar. i am at work and trying to be quick. anyways, i really appreciate you taking the time to read this over and help me out and i apologize for my lack of details in my previous post. thank you again

   Did you reset both devices?

> [...] the extender and powerline show they are connected [...]

You're basing this on what, exactly?  Some LEDs or other?  What,
exactly, are the LEDs doing?  Color?  Activity?  Look for the LED
descriptions in the User Manual.  Look for "Troubleshoot" in the User
Manual.

> [...] are not showing up when i display wifis to connect to on my

What does the "WiFi LED" show?

> [...] i had my xbox connected to the extender which is downstairs

Does that mean that you connected an Ethernet port on the Xbox to the
Ethernet port on the PLW1000?

And what happens if you do that now?  LED indicators?  ("Ethernet
LED", for example?)

> [...] Now, my xbox cant even find the wifi name "netgearetx" [...]

And now you're trying to connect the Xbox wirelessly?  I'm confused.

> [...] i was able to connect my phone and lap top to it.

If some devices have no trouble, but the Xbox has trouble, then I
might not blame the PLW1000.

> [...] trying to be quick. [...]

Try not to be quick?  Take enough time to make some basic
observations, and report the results clearly?
