Handling multicast flooding on Pro AV network with stacked switches - m4300s

Hello,

I recently completed Netgears SDVoE certification and certification for it's Pro AV switches and have heard mention a few times that in spine-and-leaf, when stacking switches, multicast flooding can become an issue.  How would you handle or prevent multicast flooding in this scenario?  This was not addressed in the certification and seems to be a large potential issue and relevant thing to need to tackle in larger architectures.

Thanks!

  • Hi ibmtci,

Stacking switches in general may incur some multicast flooding on the stacking links. But it is not an issue, most of multicast packets will be discarded at the receiver side.  Furthermore, to handle or prevent multicast flooding on your network, it is recommended to use IGMP+ on all of your receivers.

    Thanks,

    Randy
