Re: Can I upgrade CPU and memory for ReadyNAS 4312X and 528x

Bit of a necrothread going here, I know, but any idea where I could get the

RMEM04-10000S expansion DIMMs? Nothing I could find on Amazon, eBay or the Netgear website.

I got 64GB of supposedly compatible ECC RAM from Crucial and it throws errors and crashes my ReadyNAS 4312S after a few minutes. On the original 16GB it runs just fine.

Incidentally, replaced ReadyNASOS with TrueNAS Core. I hope this will get me quite a few more years use out of that pretty decent specced machine 🙂

Re: Can I upgrade CPU and memory for ReadyNAS 4312X and 528x

I wouldn't take for granted that Netgear ever actually offered that expansion RAM.  For some of the older rack-mount units that didn't come with one installed, they listed some supposed 10GB NICs, but they never actually existed as an available add-on part, as best as I can tell.

I've never had a 4312, but I've also never been unable to find compatible memory for any ReadyNAS that's expandable.  That it runs at all with that memory seems to indicate it has the right specs.  All ReadyNAS I am aware of use unregistered memory, but I doubt one would even boot with registered memory.  Most ECC memory is also registered, so make sure you do have the right spec with regard to that.

What are the part numbers of the original and additional RAM?

I'm wondering if the problem might be overheating.

Re: Can I upgrade CPU and memory for ReadyNAS 4312X and 528x

i actually expanded/changed ecc memory on the 526x and 628x. they require ecc-udimms, but they were easy enough to find (ebay). i just bought a few and plugged them in and they just work. i upgraded the 526x from 4GB to 24 (4 + 4 from 628x + 16 new) and the 628x from 4 to 32. (4gb went to 526x and 2 new 16gb sticks went into the 628x)

at the same time i replaced readynasos with truenas which also simply work on those units (booting from m.2 sata drives on the motherboard).

my guess is that some readynas are more compatible with different memory than others.
