ReadyNAS 2100 bricked
I'll confess to have been a bit stupid. I picked up a pair of ReadyNAS 2100s off eBay recently, one of which is running OS 6 and the other OS 4. I wanted both to run OS 6 and found instructions to ...

Thanks for the help. I'm currently trying again in the hope that some of this information will get me to a solution!
Just for my info, at what point did you release the backup (or reset) button when doing the recovery? As this is a rackmount, the instructions tell me to use reset and if I hold it for too long it goes into the boot menu, which I don't know if I want or not - although I'm presuming not at this point. If I release before then, the fans spin down a bit and the box sits there and thus far the only USB drive which appears to do anything differently is the SanDisk Cruzer and I'm not sure if that's down to the CD emulating bit that I can't get rid of.
Also, what files were on the drive? I only get these four:
- initrd.gz
- kernel
- RAIDiator-x86-4.2.31
- syslinux.cfg
I'm a bit surprised that syslinux.exe isn't on there, should it be?
I'll keep chipping away at it for now. Not like it's going to be much use to me otherwise!

Those files are on the USB key, plus a hidden file that is the syslinux bootloader.

syslinux.exe is used to create the syslinux bootloader using a Windows machine. It doesn't go on the USB key, though there's no harm to having it on there.

Ah... No sooner did I think I had this thing fixed and it seems I've hit another wall. I can't set the thing up because Frontview gives me absolutely nothing to work with:
This is what I'm seeing in RAIDAR. The box booting up shows the two disks I have installed, but then it changes to a box. Also, it doesn't seem to know what hardware it's working with at any point:
Now I've done some digging and it seems like the EEPROM has messed up as part of the USB recovery process and that this means I need the intervention of one of the lovely people at Netgear. Thing is, is this going to be doable on such an old bit of kit and, if so, is it going to be expensive?

More likely the EEPROM was not completely recovered properly (since it was the EEPROM you messed up trying to convert to OS6) or the transfer from EEPROM to drives didn't work completely. Start by trying an OS re-install from the boot menu. You might also have better luck now with the OS drive from another NAS. Finally, try another USB recovery.

I tried the USB recovery again and it changed nothing. I'll have a crack at using the disks from the other NAS and see what occurs.
