ReadyNas Ultra 6 Plus Memory Upgrade - 8 GB
Hello,
I recently purchased a slightly used ReadyNas Ultra 6 Plus (ReadyNAS RNDP600U) from a fellow forum member. Anyway, got the box and immediately took the advice of others on here and checked the installed memory (Apacer 1GB UNB PC2-6400 CL6 [P/N: 75.073B4.G00]). This was only on one DIMM, installed closest to the CPU. I wanted to max out the RAM at 8GB (2 x 4GB) and saw it was achievable, with some planning.
After doing some research and scouring eBay and Craigslist to find some DDR2 PC2-6400 CL6 RAM and not finding any used, I decided to buy new! But what brand...
Decided to take the plunge and bought this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003T0 ... UTF8&psc=1
(G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-8GBPQ)
I saw that G.Skill was HIGHLY recommended by many groups (overclockers, IT professionals, etc.) so it was a good bet it would work. Also, it did NOT have a massive heat sink and all the specs matched the installed RAM. The only hesitation was the price ($224) but that was the cheapest price I found for arguably the best RAM.
Tonight I finally received the RAM. When I got the package, I knew what it was! Got home installed the new memory first. Fit like a glove! No issues here. Plugged in the ReadyNas Ultra 6 Plus and stuck in a 2TB drive. Got it up and running.
First thing was to check the version of RAIDiator (4.2.22). Good! Check.
Next was to check the BIOS version: 10/03/2008 FLAME6-MB V1.6. Do'h! OK, this needs to be upgraded before anything. Thanks to Chirpa and his link in this thread:

I was able to update my BIOS to: 07/26/2010 FLAME6-MB V2.0. Now we are in business!
One thing to note. Like other people have noticed, I also only got 8064 MB on BIOS version 10/03/2008 FLAME6-MB V1.6 reported on FrontView. However, once I updated the BIOS to 07/26/2010 FLAME6-MB V2.0, then I was able to see 8192 MB.
Here she is:

Now I am running the memory test and will let it run overnight. Will give an update soon.

Re: ReadyNas Ultra 6 Plus Memory Upgrade - 8 GB
Ran the memory test for about 24 hours and it had 18 passes and 0 errors. I would say this is good to go.
