I opened the device a couple of months and didnt notice the DOM... I did solder a RAM slot on the motherboard but it was worthless, it wont work. Must be tied to BIOS ROM.
About the DOM... I am pretty sure that TSOP48 chip can be replaced with another high capacity one from a USB with its own controller, or at least using one with a Physon controller. Should try that.

Yes, but AFAIK, that's only a USB2 device and connector. You'd be better off booting from a hard drive or USB3 device.
As for the memory, it's likely also missing one or more buffers and/or pull up/down resistor packs.

Hi there! Forgot to say I got rid of the DOM and installed OMV on an external USB at the back of the device!
Also I noticed that you can also place a USB inside with a 10 pin header to USB A adapter, but yeah it will go at USB2 speed.
The good thing about the internal DOM is that the chip uses a SLC (single level cell) NAND, you wont be getting anything more reliable than that. I might solder another NAND in the future just for fun. It would be more reliable as the controller sits on the board and not on the monolith external USB NAND.
The pull up/down resistors would be nice to know... there must be another motherboard from another model that uses the other memory socket...
