incorrect share free space reported by windows/linux clients readynas 104

I have a readynas 104 which says it has 4 TB free 

readynas 104  4x3TB disks raid 6  firmware 6.1.0.7

however both my windows machine and my linux machines show only 891 GB free in this share. (see below )   none of my share use snapshots and none have any storage limits on them. any thoughts on how to address this issue?

Try disabling volume quota (look at the volume settings wheel), and then re-enable it.

 

Have you ever copied files on the NAS from ssh using the --reflink option?

Is compression enabled for the share?

thanks. that was odd.  enabled quota then disabled and now i see the space i expected to see.
