Nighthawk vs Orbi Buy
Hi Everyone,
I am contemplating buying a Nighthawk R7000P (AC2300) vs the Orbi RBK23 (ac2200) w/2 satellites.
I have a a house that is 2100 sq ft two stories. I have Frontier FIOS 100/100 and about 27 different devices connecting to my Frontier modem/router. I am tryng solve an occasional issue with some buffering and occasional signal drops on a TV on the first and second floors. It's not often, but it happens. My existing router is on the first floor middle of the house.
My initial thought is that the Orbi mesh might be a better choice as the two satellites coould be located in the trouble spots, but I'm not sure the signal from the satellites to the main Orbi base would be any better than my existing router.
My other thought is the Nighthawk and it potentially being able to better penetrate signal into the areas having issues.
Has anyone gone throught this thought process and decided on either?
Thanks in advance in replying,
Ed
I'm a fan of the orbi's and how well they work.
Most routers wifi is limited because of restrictions set by the fcc. While you do see better peak speeds with some of the flagship routers, the orbi's tend to provide much better average throughput when you start moving through a home.
Plus they have the advantage of being able to have the satellites hardwired in if needed/desire. Say if that area of your home has something blocking wifi, you could always run an ethernet cable, use powerline devices, or use moca adapters to get a hardline to that area and hook up the satellite.
