Problem with Extender EX7700 setup
I just noticed this during the setup of my new EX7700 extender to my Netgear Router R7960P.
I used the smart setup, which worked fine, and it shows the connection up and running. BUT....I noticed under that information the following line "To get the best WIFI performance from your router, changed the 5ghz wifi channel on the router to between channels 100 to 165." Mine shows channel 44.
I went to my Router information and noticed "2" 5ghz's. One is labeled 5G-1 and the other is 5G-2. The 5G-1 is the "channel 44" one and the 5G-2 is in the "100's" area.
So with Netgear telling me to change my 5GHZ on the router to a 100 to 165 channel, I tried with my 5GHZ-1 channel. I clicked the drop down arrow to change from the channel 44, BUT it only provides "FOUR" other channels, which are ALL below the 100 to 165 area that NETGEAR information said to change it to.
So, how do I change the "44" channel to one in the 100 to 165 channel range, since it will not allow it. When I "unclick" the box next to the 5GHZ-1 area, so I can use just the 5GHZ-2, which channel shows in the 100 range, I get a warning box about not doing that.
So, how my question is, how do I remedy this. thank you for your assistance.
You don't.
its designed for 1 of the 5ghz bands to be in the lower 5ghz band and the other 5ghz to be the upper.
Or they'd interfere with each other and cause issues.
If they were able to be on the same channels, they wouldn't be able to broadcast at the same time and it'd be pointless to have a tri-band router.

Thank you for the useful information.
I was just confused then why NETGEAR (while using the Smart Setup for my Extender) would reply on the final page, that indicates the connection is up and running the following highlighted infomation "To get the best WIFI performance from your router, change the 5 ghz WIFI channel on the router to between channels 100 to 165". Then the picture (on that page) show's my router connected to the extender with the 2.4 and 5 ghz in green, and then shows my Router with the "Channel 44" indicated for the 5ghz-1 channel.
After reading that during the install, it appeared to me that Netgear is telling me to change my "Channel 44" to the higher channel number.
Confusing then.
Thank you though.

You can set your 5ghz-2 on the router to the 100's channel.
And use that for the extender backhaul. You might need to re-run setup since your changing bands.
