Using WN3500RP as a Ethernet extension

Hello,

I have an Internet Box at home with Wifi and Ethernet network.

Last week, I bought a WN3500RP to extend my Wifi network. This works fine : Green light on and wireless connection to the Internet available for my phones, laptops and tablets in areas not accessible by the Internet Box (good!).

I also have a few desk computers on lan by Ethernet (no Wifi on them) on a Netgear switch, which switch is connected to the Internet box using a 30m long cable. This works works fine : I have internet on all desk computers.

The new WN3500RP I bought is used to extend my Wifi network upstairs (the Internet Box is downstairs), but I also wanted to use its Ethernet port to get rid of my 30m long cable between the switch and the Internet box (it crosses the living room, goes up the stairs and the first floor corridor.....ugly....).
The set up is simple : I removed the 30m long cable between the switch and the Internet Box and connected the switch to the new WN3500RP.

==> This doesn't work. I cannot get Internet on the computers.

==> However, if I connect directly one desk computer by Ethernet to the WN3500RP, I get access to the Internet immediately ! But the other 3 computers are left aside. (not cool, they feel alone ! :( )

Question : Can I have a switch connected to the Ethernet port of the WN3500RP for all my 3 computers to get access on the Internet (and my private home network to exchange files) ?

  • There is already thread like this witch adding switch to any model of extender has some issues.
  • And how can we make it work then ?

On the Netgear manual, we can see a screenshot with multiple "LAN" computers connected as long as "WLAN" devices. It should be possible then.
  • I would read other thread like this and/or contact support directly at my.netgear.com
