WG102 AP and iOS 6

I seem to be having DNS issues with any devices running iOS 6 when connecting to a WG102 AP.

The router's (Draytek Vigor2830n) wireless works fine, however when connecting a device to the WG102 the DNS does not seem to work. The devices can connect fine, browse the LAN and visit sites via IP addresses but any proper internet usage will not work. Eventually the device will 'work' fine, this can take about 1-5 minutes though and as soon as you disconnect from the wifi the whole issue start again.

In comparison devices running iOS 5 seem to have no trouble at all.

Aside from replacing the AP or iOS devices is there anything I can try? Given the previous problems between netgear and iOS 6 over the last year I'm sure its related....has anyone else experienced this?

Have you try putting public dns on iphone (wifi setting) using ios6?

    Hi, thanks for helping.

Yes I have just tried that now, no change, still wont work.

I did try turning security off and funnily enough it seems to work. Now that isnt a solution for me, but it hints and what the problem might be. Was there not an issue late last year with ios 6 and netgear products? ios 6.1 allow me to connect to the AP but it seems that the issues haven't completely disappeared as its still struggling.

    What I have so far;

    ios 5 works flawlessly
    No security works flawlessly
With security, ios 6 will 'eventually' work, and thats the best I can describe it, I have no idea why it suddenly starts working. I just browse around the LAN for a bit till it seems to 'start' working :S - I thought this might be down to AES as I had WPA and WPA2 setting on, but after just having WPA on with TKIP the same issue is still present.
  • There should be other ios6 with WGXX series if I remember . I would suggest to search on this

Off course ios7 will be out on 18th so may work differently as well
  • I have tried searching a lot :(. This was sort of my last resort lol. Most of the results I get are from 2012 which is when the massive issue with netgear and ios6 was around that was 'supposedly' fixed with ios 6.1.

I'm pretty confident that the problem is now ios 6 + netgear + WPA or WPA2. What I don't get is why I can connect just fine, browse LAN, use direct IP address but anything that involves DNS doesn't work - yet it will at 'some point'. Its really weird. Also after a reboot of the AP it will work just fine, but as soon as I disconnect the device from the wifi and reconnect the problem is there. I tried loads of times,

    1st time connecting: works fine.
    2nd time connecting: works fine.
    And ALWAYS
    3rd time connecting: DNS issue
Beyond the 3rd time is a hit and miss, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Meanwhile no encryption works 100% of the time.

Rebooting the AP wouldn't be so bad if ios devices could connect to the webpage, but they can't due to the certificates >.<

change the DNS to public and not to your local router as DNS

Thanks, I've changed all DNS to public and still no change.

I don't see how changing the DNS would help though, considering iOS/other devices work fine, no encryption / WEP works fine with iOS 6 and iOS 6 does sometimes work.

For the time being I've just set up a WEP iOS 6 wifi, this is by no means a solution but should hold me over a week until iOS 7 is released. If iOS 7 doesn't fix it, I might have to start looking for a new access point :(
