I have a friend that has a structure on his property that is getting sporadic WiFi. He calls it a shed but it is really his man cave. Would an extender help him or would he need something between his house and the man cave? Only electricity is run out to the man cave and he does not want to run Ethernet to it. The structure is about 30 yards from the house.

Hi dalber, Powerlines work in pairs. One powerline should be wired to the main router and the other one can be plugged in to the shed. Here is a link to an installation guide of one of the models that also has WiFi. Regards, Dexter Community Team

Welcome to the community!

An extender is ideally used in between the router and the location where the dead spot is. If there is an area in between where an extender can be placed then it may work. However, you may consider using a powerline instead. Here is the link for NETGEAR powerlines.
