Wireless router port problems: Can't use Android Market, need to open port 5228?????

My device: WGR614v10
Updated the software today to latest software.

Problem: I just got this router used from a family member--- it works fine for general internet browsing and Youtube, etc...... BUT..........Android Market won't work on my WiFi devices. It says "A server error has occurred: Retry/Cancel".

I spent 20 minutes on the phone with Google Market today, 15 minutes on the phone with my Service Provider, and have come to this conclusion---- I need to access/enable/open TCP/UDT port 5228. I am not entirely sure what this means. I am a noob when it comes to wireless routers.

I've logged in to my router's page and fiddle around with what appeared to be the proper settings.

Here is what I have done, which has NOT worked.

1) Added a "Custom Service" under Port Forwarding, TCP/UDT, port beginning and ending with 5228, and I used the IP address found where it says "Use router as DHCP Server", but I'm not sure if this was the right IP address. It is also the IP address I found using IPCONFIG on my own computer (IPv4 address, it says).

That didn't work, even after power cycling both the wireless router and wireless device.

2) Added "Port Triggering service" set to "any user". For "triggering port" I put in 5228 (not sure if that's what it was asking), and under "Inbound Connection" I set the TCP/UDT from 5228-5228.

Still didn't work.

Can someone guide me through this? I have not tried to use my Kindle WiFi yet but I suspect if I did, I will hit the same roadblock.

  • you should enable uPnP in the router setting and should able make connection when need it. but for porting the rules use portfowarding and NOT port triggering and disable uPnP. using both at same will cause issue
  • UPnP is enabled-- has been the whole time.

Port 64165 is being used by my Android device.

I've removed the Port Triggering based on your warning, no change.

I still have port forwarding set to the IP address I find when I type IPCONFIG, with Port range set to 5228.

No luck, doesn't work. Can browse the net all day long, but can't use Android Market.
  • I think you need to go android forum . I see lots of results from google search
  • One step ahead of ya, but I'm still hoping someone here can help me because I'm convinced that the root problem is with the router (or actually the USER of the router lol) because I can get the Market app to work just fine anywhere else on earth, just not on MY router---- even though i can use my router all day to browse the web on the phone..... just can't use the Market app.

Here's the thread I posted specifically regarding the router, but I posted a similar question a day or two ago when I first got the router and had not narrowed the issue down to the router.

If anyone has any advice, I'm still all ears, I haven't solved this
