Cannot get Port Forwarding to work.

Cannot get Port Forwarding to work.

I've setup port forwarding.

I have a program running on 192.168.1.3 on port 8080:

I check my external ip address by going to https://www.whatismyip.com/, then I hit http://172.112.221.26:8080.  It always says: "The connection has timed out".  The port forwarding never works.

What am I missing?  How can I troubleshoot this?  My firmware version is V1.0.1.28_1.0.21

Good start.  Only one missing datum: What feeds the R6900?

What is the R6900 WAN IP address?  Perhaps: ADVANCED > Advanced Home
: Internet Port : Internet IP Address.  What's between the R6900 and
your ISP?  If it's another router, then the cascaded routers (and the
resulting "double NAT") could explain this behavior.

If the R6900 is fed by a combination modem+router, then you may want
to disable the router function of that gizmo.  Or else do the port
forwarding on that router, and configure the R6900 as a wireless access
point.

@antinodeYou are right on the money.  After I posted a question I managed to log in to the cable modem which turns out to be a router too.  I created a port forwarding setup to forward port 8080 to the Netgear router which in turn forwards it to my laptop.

Thank you!

You might be happier in the long run if your (still unidentified)
"the cable modem" has a modem-only mode, and you use that.

Re: Cannot get Port Forwarding to work.

It's an Ubee router/modem.  I am not 100% sure how to enable that mode.  I'll research that should it become necessary.
