How to go about troubleshooting dropped connections from router?
I have a Nighthawk R7000 that’s about 2-3 years old. For the past 3-4 months or so I’ve been losing internet connection anywhere from one to ten times a day. It usually comes back on itself after about 30 seconds or so but it’s annoying when I’m in work calls and it happens. I called my internet provider and they said on their end I haven’t lost connection in over 2 years and basically said it’s my router thats the culprit but I can’t imagine I’d need a new router already. Anyone else run into this before?

Re: How to go about troubleshooting dropped connections from router?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
Does the internet LED on the router turn AMBER when this happens?
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter.
Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. https://kb.netgear.com/22697/How-do-I-install-my-NETGEAR-router-using-the-router-web-interface
Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

Generic answers are all very well, but replacing cables is usually a futile exercise and an unnecessary expense. By all means check that the existing cables are OK – they do die – but first try to track down what it happening.
What loses connection? Wifi? Ethernet? Everything on the network?
If it is just be one device, you should sort that out.
What happens? Do the LEDs on the R7000 offer any clues. And LEDs on the modem?
You could also look at the router's logs.
I called my internet provider and they said on their end I haven’t lost connection in over 2 years and basically said it’s my router thats the culprit but I can’t imagine I’d need a new router already. Anyone else run into this before?
That is the default reply from Internet service providers. They always pass the buck.
However, your router may be two years old but the R7000 first came out in 2017. Nothing wrong with that, and you shouldn't need a new router. but you don't have the latest technology, especially on the wifi front.
Just another user with a set of boilerplate macros.

Re: How to go about troubleshooting dropped connections from router?
There may be various reasons behind it. To troubleshoot a dropped connection in a router, follow these steps:
1. *Restart Router*:
- Power cycle the router by unplugging it for 10-15 seconds and then plugging it back in.
- Wait for the router to fully restart.
2. *Update Firmware*:
- Log in to the router's web interface and check for firmware updates. If available, update to the latest version.
3. Check for Overloading*:
- Too many devices using the network can overload it. Disconnect unused devices or upgrade your plan if needed.
4. *Reset Router* (as a last resort):
- If none of the above steps work, you can reset the router to its factory settings and reconfigure it from scratch. Be sure to back up your settings if necessary.
