Netgear R9000 nighthawk x10 internet appears offline when there’s connection

I just recently got the router. Heard it was one of the best. When I downloaded the nighthawk app, next to the image it says “internet: offline.” I tried restarting the router and the modem. Checked if is updated and it is, but there is connection. Should I worry?

I accidentally figured it out. I thought AP mode is the best, which wasn’t in my case, so I swapped back to router mode. I just went on https://www.routerlogin.com to do all of that but you have to connect an ethernet cable to from your router and to a computer. Then as I swapped back from AP mode it now accurately shows the status as online from now on.

What modem are you using?

What firmware version are you on?

Re: Netgear R9000 nighthawk x10 internet appears offline when there’s connection

I just upgraded to v 1.0.5.18 and have the same problem. I have ATT 1000Gb and ARRIS BGW210-700 modem. Never had this before. Everything seems to be working fine, and throughput is screaming, yet the app says “INTERNET: Offline.” Not sure what else I can test to detect a problem. Possibly missing a setting for Bridging? Is this just a classic NETGEAR firmware bug?

   Wouldn't amaze me.

   You might have been right.

And you might now be wrong.

That may correct the problem with the Internet indicator, but it may
still be a bad idea.  Cascading multiple routers can cause multiple
problems.  These include "double NAT", and complications in
communication between local devices which are on different IP subnets.

A wireless connection to the R9000-as-WAP should work as well.  Or,
get the (new) LAN IP address of the R9000-as-WAP from the main router
(an "Attached Devices" or "DHCP Clients" or similar report) and use that
address.

If your "ARRIS BGW210-700 modem" is really acting as a modem+router,
not as a simple "modem", then you might have less trouble with the R9000
configured as a WAP, faulty Internet indicator or not.

Re: Netgear R9000 nighthawk x10 internet appears offline when there’s connection

In case anyone has this problem, I reset the modem and r9000 to factory settings, upgraded the firmware again, and set the “bridge mode” settings again on both devices, and it works fine now. Seems to have improved performance by a consistent 10% as well, which could be due to other factors. The moral is a clean factory reset is a good place to start troubleshooting.

As always, an actual version number would be more useful than your
opinion of what's "upgraded" today.

"bridge mode" on the R9000?  Or "AP mode", or what, exactly?
