Nighthawk Router reset passwords and wifi name by itself.
I woke up today and got on my phone but the wifi wasn't working. When I checked my connection the usual netgear## network didn't show up. It was just "Netgear" connection. So I tried logging onto my router and the normal password wasn't working, so I tried the default password and got into the router. I placed me at the set up screen for name, security questions, etc. It was like the thing factory reset itself. So I called Netgear support and they were useless, but I managed to log into the router. All the network names and passwords were default and off. I unplugged it last last night after I got tired of a bad lag issue on Xbox. I've never had so many issues with a netgear product.

Re: Nighthawk Router reset passwords and wifi name by itself.
What is this Netgear router? Model number?
What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Xbox is well known to cause issues when people can't work out how to configure it, and their router, to cooperate.
