Which way to orient the antennae of the R9000 for lateral beamforming?
I have my R9000 X10 in the front of the house. Thats where the cable outlet and cable modem is. The house isn't wired up for ethernet or coax. So re-positioning the R9000 is not practical at this ti...

Good idea!
I have left the Channel setting alone w the R9000.
OT: The 2.4 GHz has the channel set to "Auto". The 5 GHz is "153". Why is it set to 153? Is that the "correct" setting? There is no "Auto" for that frequency,

The 5ghz don't usually have an 'auto' function because it isn't as necessary as it was with 2.4ghz. 2.4ghz broadcasts a lot further and through more materials. 5ghz is a bit self limiting in distance. And there's more channels. Also because they're faster, they tend to not be actively broadcasting as much.

So, how does the R9000 decide which channel to use (amongst the many listed, including some tagged as DFS)? Any difference in performance if I select some other channel?

Not a whole lot. The lower 5ghz channels used to be limited in broadcast strength but I think that got lifted several years ago.
The best thing to do? download a wireless channel scanner like inssider or arcylic and actually scan your area. Then you can choose a free channel. As well as one like acrylic actually shows the channel overlaps to view.
