INCREDIBLY SLOW WIFI SPEEDS

Hello,

I’m experiencing incredibly slow Wi-Fi speeds on all my wireless devices using the Netgear Nighthawk AX5400 Wi-Fi Router (RAX50). I have “1Gbps” internet through Xfinitiy and have run a multitude of speed test on various devices throughout the house. My wired connection through the RAX50 is around 980Mbps, which is normal for us, but the Wi-Fi speed averages 180Mbps and that’s while sitting next to the router using an iPhone 12 Pro with Wi-Fi 6 and connected to 5 Ghz Wi-Fi; and it only gets worse the further I move away from the router. I was previously using the 6th Generation Apple Airport Extreme and getting an average of 309Mbps via Wi-Fi.

 

This is now the second Netgear router I’ve used that hasn’t lived up to its advertised performance, this one being more expensive and supposedly better than the last.

 

Thoughts or suggestions?

    What modem/gateway is it connected to ?

    What firmware version are you using? 

    Have you tried changing which 5ghz channel your on?

    Another option is a factory reset and clean install. the RAX devices were released before the AX spec was even finalized. They respond very favorably to factory reset and clean install (not from backup)
