Logged in to router and under administration router update have checked for new version and get the reply that it has the current version. However the current version is V1.0.9.88_10.2.88. On the support page of R7000 it is listed that the current version is 1.0.11.123 - Hot Fix. R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.123 - Hot Fix | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Apparently the check seems to not update anymore?
Is a manual update necessary or recommended? Anybody else having this situation?

Its failry common with that router.
You can manuall update.

I'd recommend doing it over a hardwired connection. If you do have issues, try a factory reset and new install process (not using a backup)

Re: R7000 not finding newest firmware update
Auto update or manual update has not worked on my R7000 since 5 or 6 rev's back..
