R7960P - logging into router - does not ask for user name and password

When I log into the router using http://www.routerlogin.net, no login window opens. I am not asked for a user name (e.g., admin) or password. It goes straight to the main, six-screen page that shows network name, password, etc.  How do I change settings to require a login window when logging into the router?

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Your first thought was the correct one - a different browser brings up the login window. When I set up the router, a Cox technician was waiting for me to finish. Hurried, i must tolD the browser save the password, which is not my normal practice.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply at length and solving my issue!

Which model is it?  Firmware version?

Does a different web browser act differently?  (Is your web browser
    handling the log-in stuff automatically?)

If you can't blame the browser, then you might try a settings reset
    (and manual reconfiguration).

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for
    "reset".

When that fails, I might (in desperation) try a different firmware
    version.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file for
    instructions.
