Nighthawk AXE7000 Router Changing 5G Channels by Itself
I have a Nighthawk AXE7800 tri-bank WiFi 6E router. I have set the 5G channel to 40, which is the only channel on the 5G network that is not used by other nearby routers. Several times now, without me taking any action nor making any changes to my WiFi nor router, my Nighthawk router has by itself changed 5G to another channel.
I then go into my router and change 5G back to channel 40. It stays that way for some time, then randomly it changes to a different (and always very crowded) 5G channel. It shouldn't be doing that, and if I didn't have the techincal know how to occasionally pull up my WiFi scanner I'd never know the 5G channel changed itself.
This is a bug in my view. I don't want the 5G channel to change, unless I do so myself. How do I prevent this and how do I open a ticket with Netgear on this issue?

The speed change to 80 Mhz bandwidth seems to have done the trick. Several days now and hasn't moved from channel 40. Thanks again for your expert help. I now know more about the intricacies of the 5G allocated bandwidth.

The RAXE300's 5ghz band is "up to 4800mbps". That means its using 160hz wide channels. to use 160hz wide channels, it has to use dfs channels. They overlap and when it senses dfs broadcasts, it has to change off them. If you want to disable this, set your 5ghz bandwidth to "up to 2400mbps". that'll narrow it to 80hz wide channels and then you can set it on non-dfs channels so it doesn't change. Keep in mind, it'll still broadcast from channels 36-48 when 80hz wide. so even if you set it on a different channel, it still going to overlap to those others.

Ah, that is information I didn't have or know before. I do have the speed higher and it's using 160Mhz bandwidth. I'll reduce the speed (still faster than my 1 Gig internet speed). I suspect that is the issue. Appreciate the enlightenment.
Just when I thought I had fully unlocked the secrets of the allocated frequency spectrum, still more to learn.

I have changed the router speed for 5G to 2.4Gbs. Checked my WiFi scanning app and I'm now using 80Mhz bandwidth. I suspect based on now knowing the higher bandwidth would overlap into the DFS frequencies, I suspect the router channel will now behave itself and stay put. I'll let it run for a bit. Thanks again.
