RAX80 SETTINGS FLAW - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ROUTER

I have had my RAX80 for over a year now, and it's is by far the best router I have ever used,  EXCEPT...

And this is a big except.

Whenever there is a power outage, or I restart the router, some of my settings (not all of them - that's weird), reset back to factory default.   The 5G Network name goes back to its factory default.  Remote management deactivates.  And all my LAN reservations disappear, so all the devices I have a static IP addresses cannot reconnect because those IP addresses on restart are now occupied by different devices.

So, I try using Access Control to block certain devices, but when I do that, I notice that what the RAX80 thinks is using that IP address is completely wrong.  So, I have to keep refreshing to see if the RAX will ever pick up the right device.  This bug is so frustrating, I'm thinking of throwing out what is the best function router I have ever had, because of this issue.

I have even tried to backup my settings and then restore them after a power outage, and the router doesnt take that either.  Or only imports some of the settings but not all.  If I were to purchase this router again, I would defintely purchase a different router, so be warned.

I have waited over a year for Netgear to send a firmware that will repair this problem, but to date, they have not.  And I know they know about this issue because it has been posted on these boards numerous times.  So, either they can't fix it, or don't care enough to bother.

Either way, if you are thinking about buying this router DON'T.  This router is too expensive just to toss for this issue.  As I mentioned, on every other front, it is impeccable.  My remedy at the moment, is to purchase a battery backup and run the router on that, so if the power ever goes out again, it won't on the router.  Why is has come it this is beyond me.  So, be warned.  This software issue is a HUGE problem that Netgear has yet to fix, one year later.  It's my impression this will never get fix, and I know now, when the router finally dies, I guarantee that I will never purchase anything from Netgear again.  They have lost one customer.

I have seen this myself. Created a backup config for this issue.

It is possible that power quality/fluctuations are the cause of the problem.  You may wish to consider the use of an uninterruptible power supply (e.g., see here); which provides EMI/RFI filtration, surge suppression, and automatic voltage regulation – together with battery backup (using sine wave output).

Did try the backup battery. I was hoping that with the power always being supplied, this would stop. But this problem happened anytime I restarted the router. It just wouldn’t hold my settings.
