Surfshark VPN with R6400v2
I have a Nighthawk R6400v2. I would like to download Surfshark VPN and put it on the router. Surfshark says I should look for OpenVPN Client in the list and not to mix it up with an OpenVPN server. Does anyone know if R6400v2 has OpenVPN Client? I cannot seem to find that this is compatible with R6400v2. Does anyone know if I can download and use Surfshark on R6400v2?
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Surfshark VPN with R6400v2
for the R6400v2 to support surfshark, you'd need to install 3rd party firmware to it. It doesn't from stock.
From there you could use it.
Be aware, installing 3rd party firmware to it will void your warranty and can brick your device if done wrong.
Should you choose to go that route, google your model number and ddwrt

Thank you. I'm hesitant to monkey around with it too much. Is there a reasonably priced VPN that you would recommend, that I can put on an R6400v2?

Re: Surfshark VPN with R6400v2
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for General Router products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with older routers and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

Thank you

The only vpn that works on stock firmware is the built in one.
If you're wanting a different one, you'd have to install the 3rd party firmware.

Re: Surfshark VPN with R6400v2
If I am not mistaken, the built in one will allow me to securely access my home computer when I am out traveling. Does the built in one allow me privacy in regards to my activity on the internet? I'm trying to take some steps to increase my level of privacy.

Re: Surfshark VPN with R6400v2
If you're looking for the easiest to use/secure, I'd look at installing the 3rd party firmware and using a vpn that hosts in a country that doesn't allow monitoring/logs.
