Ap mode or router orbi rbk50
So I unboxed the system plugged it into my wired network and set it up. Software updated to the latest version. As far as I can tell everything works fine. After viewing this forum I find out the la...

Robert,
Sorry - I forgot that you have hard-wired connections. I work only on wifi so I default to that way of thinking.
Since you have hard-wired access there's no need to keep the gateway wifi operational unless you have some devices that depend on wifi and that might be needed while working out any issues with the Orbi setup.
In any case best of luck.

Thanks, but I didn't have any luck. I was able to get the Orbi up and running but I could never get to orbilogon.com. I tried this but it didn't help:
https://kb.netgear.com/31142/Why-can-t-I-access-orbilogin-com-or-orbilogin-net
I even tried putting the Comcast gateway in bridge mode but it made it worse. I was able to use WPS to connect my wireless printer to the Orbi. But I was never able to put the Orbi in AP mode because I couldn't get to the Internet. And my iPhone coudn't get to orbilogon.com either.
The IP address assigned to my iPhone for the Orbi SSID is 192.168.1.3 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and the router IP address is 195.168.1.1 which might be a sign of a double-NAT and probably explains why I can't access orbilogon.com. But I am able to surf the web with my iPhone.

Robert,
I use orbilogin.net, not orbilogin.com.
Have you tried the Orbi app? I can't recall if it gives you the option to set the Orbi up as an Access Point (AP), but it might have that functionality.

195.168.1.1 is an IP address in Slovakia. I'm guessing that was a typo and you meant 192.168.1.1. In any case that's not your WAN IP address, that's the LAN address of your Orbi.
You can always access your Orbi and change the settings from a WiFi device or a wired device connected to the router.
If your iPhone was assinged 192.168.1.3, and your Orbi is in router mode, then your Orbi router IP address will be 192.168.1.1.
Go to http://192.168.1.1 from a web browser and log into the Orbi admin GUI. From there you can see what your status is, change settings, etc.
It's not clear to me whether you have an issue or a question at this point though.

.net and .com do the same. The Orbi app on iPhone does not have that option.
This didn't help:
https://kb.netgear.com/31142/Why-can-t-I-access-orbilogin-com-or-orbilogin-net
http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/orbi/orbilogin.aspx
I need tp do this but I can't get there.
https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point
Trying to use my iPhone, I get a 401 Authorization asking for my router serial number and it says it is invalid.
And now my Orbi's won't sync.

Robert,
I'm assuming that you saw the notes from st_shaw. If those haven't solved the problem, I would proceed as follows.
I would forget about the satellite for now. It can always be added later and there is no need to complicate things. Disconnect the Orbi from your gateway. Then reset the Orbi (not reboot) so that you are starting fresh. The reset is just to the right of the power button. Just hold the reset down (I used a paperclip) until the light begins blinking.
You should then be able to work with the Orbi as a standalone router and access it via the phone app or at orbilogin.net. As I mentioned I don't recall if the app will let you configure the Orbi as an AP, but I think that it will. You could also plug a PC directly into the Orbi if that is more convenient. From there you should be able to configure it as an Access Point (see the video link that I included earlier) and then connect it to your gateway.
I can't guarantee that will work, but st_shaw can probably provide much better insight if needed.

Yay that worked. I used my PC by connecting to the Orbi SSID and the IP address allowed me to change the Orbi to AP mode. In AP mode, the router's IP address is 10.0.0.48 which makes sense. My Comcast gateway's login IP address is 10.0.0.1.
Now, I have to recheck that both Orbi's are sync'ed. They didn't seem to be sync'ec earlier. Is there a way to tell?
The RBS50's IP address is 192.168.1.2, which doesn't seem right; it should be a 10.x.x.x. I might try powering it off and on and do another sync.

st_shaw,
I have a related question regarding IPs. I checked my Orbi and Gateway pages and confirmed that they both show the same connected devices with the following exceptions:
A.) The Gateway shows the Orbi as IP 10.0.0.143.
B.) The Orbi doesn't show that IP. Instead it includes two IPs that don't show up on the Gateway page. Both are showing up as "wired" and I have no devices wired to my Gateway, other than the Orbi:
Naray Information - 10.0.0.254
Intel - 10.0.0.1
I'm assuming that the IPs that the Orbi is showing are a result of the fact that it is in AP mode. Both IPs have associated MACs, so I'm also assuming that there are chipsets, or something similar, that are providing the AP connection.
Does that make sense?
Thanks,
Wayne

Ok, so Orbi is in AP mode and your gateway shows the Orbi "router" as having the IP address 10.0.0.143. I got that.
Why do you say the Orbi doesn't show that IP? To see the IP address assigned to the Orbi "router" in AP mode, you need to log into the Orbi "router" at it's IP address and look at the Advanced->Administration->Router Status page. The IP address assigned to the Orbi "router" will be listed in the box labeled "LAN Port". http://10.0.0.143
I probably did not answer your question. If you can post a couple screen shots to illustrate what you are looking and and what your question is, that would help. It looks like the Orbi attached devices list is buggered-up on the latest firmware, so maybe that's the issue.

st_shaw,
Thanks for the clarification.
A.) I screwed up on the identification of the Orbi. I was looking at the IP for the Orbi Satellite. My Gateway is showing 10.0.0.211 for the Orbi and that matches what is showing up on the Orbi page that you referenced. That IP doesn't show up on theOrbi "Connected Devices" page, which makes sense.
B.) That leaves the 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.254 IPs that I mentioned. Those are showing up on the "Connected Device" page for the Orbi (see attachment). The 10.0.0.1 must be the Gateway. Since the Orbi is, in fact, wired to the Gateway that would make sense. The MAC shown for the 10.0.0.1 IP doesn't match, as far as I can tell, the MAC of the Gateway so that's another question. I'll look into that later.
In any case, that just leaves the 10.0.0.254. That IP is not showing up on the Gateway. I do have a desktop PC wired to the Satellite, but I checked and it has a different IP (10.0.0.29 - not shown on the list as it was in sleep mode when I took the image).
Based on the attachment can you think of what that IP might represent?
Thanks,
Wayne

Now, I will test some streaming and see if it is better.

Wayne, The MAC address of 00:05:04:03:02:01 is almost certainly spoofed and not a real MAC. I think you said you have Comcast. I expect it's something to do with how Comcast setup your router, and isn't a concern. You can Google it. It's probably a fail-safe IP address hardwired into the router to allow access to the router for special purposes, troubleshooting, etc.

st_shaw,
You appear to be correct. I found the following in a search for 10.0.0.254 and 00:05:04:03:02:01:
"It's the IP address and the MAC / hardware address of the gateway's built in ASA hardware firewall."
I've posted this in case anyone else happens to wonder what it might be.
Thanks for all the help in getting the Orbi operational!
