Connection protocol 2.4 g vs 5 g -what is the deal??? Orbi-AC2200

I just don't understand the logic in which the mesh network uses.

i know there are a few threads on 2.4/5g, but I want to give my specific issue.

i have an RBR40 and RBS40

I have the main router downstairs in my office and the satellite upstairs in my bedroom.

My my main problem is with my new (LG) OLED TV. This TV supports a 5g connection, because that's how I connected on my last router, yet I can't get a 5g connection with the Orbi.

The tv is 2 feet away from the satellite and most of the time it doesn't even connect to the satellite, it connects at 2.4 to the router downstairs. The satellite phiscally is sitting between the tv and the router.

Now i I know the satellite is working, because I have about 5 other devices connecting using both bands.

Why hey would my TV) skip the satellite and connect to the further away router at a slow speed????

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

The best solution is to connect your TV with an Ethernet cable and save the wireless airspace for your other devices.

If your TV doesn't have an Ethernet port, then you could try moving the Orbi farther away from the TV. Two feet might be too close.

wireless AC is very sensitive , your sat could be just too close to the tv and causing issue , move it further away

Thanks for your reply!

I have moved it away, and the TV is now connecting to the Sat ok, but it is connecting at 2.4ghz and not 5ghz. This product is very frustrating.

my older Liynksis was working fine, i question why it did this upgrade,

and how do you know its not connecting to the 5 gig ? seeing as the ssid is the same for both and tv's dont usually show connection sync

btw the advise above was solid , if your 2 feet away from the orbi sat why not connect via ethernet

if you connect to wifi 5 gig its 867M max sync

if you connect to 2.4 gig its 400M max sync

if you connect to the ethernet of the sat its 1733M max sync
