Orbi RB13 and Altice One
I have an Orbi RB13 Dual Band mesh system and am unfortunate enough to have the Altice One all in one modem/router etc combo. I called into Altice asking if I could have them turn of the wifi signa...

Thank you for your reply. There is no way to turn off the wifi through the router of my ISP device. Optimum/Altice is will not turn it off either so I am stuck with this thing putting out a wifi signal. I am wondering if I should then put the orbi on router mode or ap mode.I am still interested in finding the User Manual for this device on line. Can you provide the model number from the product label?
The Altice WiFi has no bearing on the Orbi mode. Orbi can be in router or Access Point (AP) mode and will function either way.
The only potential issue is that there are specific situations which do not function well in a "double NAT" environment (when there are two routers back-to-back): https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT Thousands of Orbi's are in router mode behind ISP routers and the users notice no problem.
The "problem" is having two WiFi networks being broadcast at the same time. (Imagine if soemone had set up their stereo in your living room and you wanted to turn on your own stereo. Would make listening to your music much less convenient.) Sure, you can manually switch the Orbi 2.4G WiFi to a different channel, and hope that the Altice WiFi never changes. But, WTF????
Every other ISP combination device (modem/router/wifi) has a method to disable both the routing function and the wifi function. It just seems strange that this one ISP device cannot.
What has worked for me in the past is to call the tech support line several times. I had an issue with Spectrum that tech support could not resolve. They actually "rolled a truck" and the tech spent six hours at my house replacing cables, swapping devices, etc. before he left in dispair. Then, I called tech support "one more time", and a nice woman said, "oh. this setting on your account isn't right. Can you try it again?" Problem solved. Surely Optimum has more than one tech.

well damn, and double damn. Is this the only device they provide? the customer is not allowed to provice their own modem?
(SHould have asked, is this cable or fiber service?)
- starlasixxNov 16, 2020Aspirantit's cable and it's not the only device they provide. I could get the older setup with separate router/ wifi/ cable box but I am seriously trying to avoid having to deal with these people as much as possible. Optimum/ Altice is an absolute nightmare!

Optimum/ Altice is an absolute nightmare!I spent a few minutes browing the Optimum web site. From my (brief) observation, it appears Optimum customers have a number of options:
- They can have a simple "internet modem" (with optional telephone service), provided by an Arris Touchstone TM1602. This can be rented from Optimum, or the customer can purchase it and avoid a monthly fee. The TM1602 is available on Amazon. This modem has no WiFi and no "television features".
- They can get the Altice One, which is a combination modem, router, television, WiFi, telephone (makes coffee, too???) device.
It's not obvious to me what caused Optimum to replace the previous setup with the Altice. Was it a "too good to pass up" promotion? Did the previous system fail and a tech came out and replaced it?
