Powerline compatibility with other brands

This is not a question but I wish to add to the Community's knowledge base.

I currently have a Netgear PLP1200 which performs fine.   I have just purchased a D-Link Powerline AV21000(DHP-W611AV).

I can report that I have added successfuly the D-Link and it is performing as desired.

When I first followed the steps to add the D Link per the Netgear procedure, it paired/added the D-Link device but then the Netgear Powerline (the remote one)crashed.  I then factory reset both of the Netgear powerline adapters and then all adapters worked ie the Netgear and the D-Link.

    Thanks for confirming that.

     

    Most recent Powerline devices follow the AV standard, which means that you can mix different makes and different generations. The only issue if that if you add "1000" plugs to a network with "500" plugs they will talk to each other at the speed of the slowest plugs on the network.

    Remember, you need only one "source" plug connected to the router.

     

    One other thing to consider, in theory you can mix brands but it isn't always easy to get set them up.
