SlowSpeed on Powerline AV200

Hi,

I have connected my computer to XAVN2001 (Powerline AV200).

The WiFi speed is 250+ (Downoad) and 15+ (Upload)

But when connected to Powerline AV200 extension it is 11+ (Downoad) and 8+ (Upload)

Why so?

Please advise.

Thanks!

  • Powerline is sensntive to many things.

    1. distance. The outlets might be next to each other but on seperate circuits. distance and crossing circuits is going to reduce speeds.

    2. interference. many things cause interference. These include:

    • old/bad/cheap wiring
    • gfci outlets
    • arc fault circuits
    • surge protectors
    • high draw appliances
    • poorly made electronics that inject interference into the power line
    • devices going bad
    • cheap cell phone chargers

In my opinion, powerline devices are even higher overrated than wireless ratings. But when you have a connection its consistent.

Plus I'd look at a few reviews/test for powerline AV200 devices to see what a reasonable expectation is.

AV200 are early generation devices. They date back to 2010. A lot has changed since then.

There are have three or four generations since then, 500, 1000 and 2000 at the latest. Plugs pre "1000" have 100 Mbps LAN ports, 1000s have gigabit.
