Very slow download speed

My tower is connected to the PL1000v2 and Xfinity speed test only results in 13 Mbps download speed.  When I moved it to the Xfinity router/modem and pluged it in directly I got 120 Mbps and noticably better speed.  What is wrong with this device?

Its usually not the device. Its usually just in the way powerline works.

Since its broadcasting over the powerline network, many things impact it and cause interference and signal degredation.

for instance, you might think the devices are only "20ft" or whatever distance apart but if they are on different circuits, they have to run to the circuit box and back. which could add quite a bit of distance and signal degredation. Plus you see a significant speed hit when you cross circuits.

The other issue is how many things can cause interference/signal degredation.

    Things like:

    surge protectors

    arc fault breakers

    gfci outlets

    old/bad wiring

    improperly wired homes

    high draw appliances

electronics going bad or improperly made

cheap cell phone chargers (or poorly made)

    plus many more

Its the issue with powerline in general that so many things impact it.

What you can try? connect them in 2 outlets on the same circuit and test them. If they get decent speeds, its the home or something plugged in elsewhere in the home adding interference. but again, they still might not get decent speed if you have a device in the home thats adding enough interference in the spectrum the powerline devices use.

Thanks for the reply.  I tried several receptacles throughout my basement and 1st floor using large diameter extension cords.  The best result I got was just over 40 Mbps.  I then tried a bedroom recepticle and got 130 Mbps but it took 150 feet of cord, not a practical solution.

      Anything else to try?

I'm not sure what you were trying with the extension cords.

But if you're were testing on the same circuit and got the 140 mbps and on a seperate circuit only got 40mbps, then it seems to indicate a home issue.
