Backup error: cannot create directory .... permission denied

So thanks to the excellent help on this board, I was able to finally start running backups from my NAS to my PC. I have three backup jobs, but two failed indicating. My log file from one of those backups follows below. I have no idea what to do about this, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

INCREMENTAL Backup started. Sat Apr 30 05:05:06 PDT 2016

Job: 003
Protocol: cifs
Source: [TM_Deanna]//1-TM PRODUCTION
Destination: //192.168.1.124/TM_Deanna-BAK

cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/5-MINIMARKERS': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/1--MASTER-DYE-FABRIC': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/3--MASTER -- MARKER LIST': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/6-DIGITIZED PATTERNS': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/Z-Measurement Manuals and INFO': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/DeAnna Rodriguez': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/1--MASTER--SKUS-PRICING-COLORS': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/4--GRADE TABLES': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/5-TECH PACKS': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/3--MASTER -- SIZE CHARTS': Permission denied
cp: cannot create directory `/job_003/2--MASTER -- PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT': Permission denied

Backup failed. Sat Apr 30 05:05:07 PDT 2016.

Reason for failure:
Error encountered copying data from source path /TM_Deanna//1-TM PRODUCTION ==> //192.168.1.124/TM_Deanna-BAK due to permission denial on one or more files.

  • I think your source path name is incorrect on the backup job settings. The starting \ should be removed.  It should just be 1-TM-PRODUCTION

The backup will also fail if the NAS doesn't have permission from Windows to write to the TM_Deanna share.  If the TM account credentials are the ones you use on the PC, then the windows file permissions are probably ok.  But you might want to double-check that the network permissions for the windows folder give TM full access.

Can you give us the settings in step-1 and step-2 of the backup job configuration?  A screenshot would be the easiest way.

Here it is. The test connection works fine and other backup jobs using the same source/destination but to different directories are successful as well. I assumed this has something to do with permissions on the files that are actually being copied.

      Thanks

        Hi chuber,

Have you tried resetting the permission of the TM_Deanna share? Also, confirm if the Path was manually entered or was it chosen or selected via the 'browse' button?

        Kind regards,
